French Fries

Did you know that your favorite French Fries, did not really came from France? Actually the word "French" is derived from the word frenching which means cutting of potatoes into narrow strips. Now you know that the French fries you eat now is not originally from France....hmmm....Now I wonder where it came from.Have any idea?
