Monosodium Glutamate

Did you know that Monosodium Glutamate or simply known to as "vetsin" has adverse effects to us? Several decades ago, there have been occasional reports of people experiencing certain symptoms shortly after eating in Chinese restaurants. These symptoms have been collectively termed as the "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome" and includes the following: burning sensation at the back of the neck, forearms and chest, facial pressure or tightness, chest pain, headache, nausea, palpitation, numbness in the back, tingling, warmth and weakness of the face, upper back, neck and arms, drowsiness, weakness and an asthmatic attacks. Whew! this is quite a lot huh?But don't worry since this only lasts for 15-60 minutes after eating and there have been no report of death or prolonged illness about these symptoms.

Flavors of Ice-Cream


There are 700 different flavors of Ice-Cream found in Merida, Valenzuela..Juan de Corto manages this stall and he says that he refrains from using any chemicals as food preservative or to enhance taste, but only natural ingredients. Incuded in the list are beer, garlic, spaghetti, onion, fish, meat and whole lot more!(it's 700 remember?)

World's first hamburger....


The world's first hamburger fast-food is neither Mc Donald's nor Wendy's.It was White Castle, which began with a 15-by-10-foot concrete building in the shape of a miniature castle in Wichita, Kansa in 1921 by Walter Anderson and Waldo Ingram. It seated five customers at a time and the stream-cooked burgers cost only 5 cents each. Mc Donald's didn't open until 1948 in San Bernardino, California.

The hole in the Doughnut

The hole in the doughnut was invented in 1874 by Hanson Gregory, a New England sea captain....He did it for practical reason and that's for uniform frying and for him easily hook a few of the doughnuts on the handles of his ships steering wheel to have them close at hand for quick bite while piloting at sea. So if you happen to buy a doughnut, you need not wonder why there's a hole in the middle.
